I often ask my husband to screen the news for me. Like most of us, I find it so overwhelming. As I'm writing this, many innocent people at the Boston Marathon were recently hurt, and some were killed. It is not difficult to find tragedy in the news: it is everywhere. Yet as my Pastor, Paul Wilson, was reminding us recently, we are called to be the salt and light, to keep on loving each other even in the midst of the darkness. This is not a trite or glib response to the depths of suffering. It is a very, very difficult endeavor. We cry out to God together as we continue in our compassion.
